Two Queens of the Cage Meet at UCMMA 17: Kings of the Cage

On December the 4th, the UCMMA showcases two of the UK’s finest female MMA fighters at the London Troxy. A bout which has been long overdue in the UK fight scene pits Muay Thai specialist Michelle Tyler against experienced grappler Vicki Watts.

Tyler, who trains out of London Shoot fighters, is competing in her first MMA bout much like her opponent Vicki Watts, who is an experienced grappler.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me to fight on the UK’s most high profile MMA Organisation and I’m training hard to do myself and Shoot fighters proud,” said Tyler.

“I’ve been waiting so long for a fight and opponent. I’m really excited about it… Now, it’s really about getting in the cage and seeing what happens from there.”

Tyler’s opponent, Vicki Watts, is a Hull based MMA trainer with many years of experience and is also excited to be fighting for the UK’s biggest fight promotion.

“This is going to be a really big test of my skills against a very tough opponent. Right now I’m not nervous but I’m sure as the fight comes closer the nerves will start to kick in.”

“Previously UK fights have been mismatched and one-sided with someone less experienced being brought in to fight someone bigger. What stands out about this show is that it is really well matched. This is a big thing and a real sign of progress that we have got to a stage where we can see competitive female fights. This will be a chance to showcase female MMA at its best.”

“I’m also really excited about finally matching two girls on UCMMA,” said UCMMA fight promoter Dave O’ Donnell.

“It’s been a long time coming but hopefully this will be the first of many female fights and these two girls are real warriors. There’s already a lot of hype around this and it’s going to be one of the most talked about fights this year

  2. Just to clarify – this is Vicky Watts debut (not sure where the writer got “years of experience in the cage” from). She has trained for some years in various combat sports – as has Michelle Tyler, but it will be the first MMA fight for both.

Also – Vicky coaches at her own gym with her partner in Hull. I work with a handful of female fighters, but I don’t run my own gym. We’ve both been training with the excellent coaches at Next Generation in Liverpool 🙂

    • I don’t think the information was properly put across. It made i seem as if she’d had a few fights. Apologies
