Fighter Of The Week – Kenny Florian

One of MMA’s most well respected fighters, Kenny Florian is known for many things. His razor sharp elbows, sharp suits and fantastic tweets (if you don’t have twitter or you’re not following him, then it’s your loss). As he enters a new stage in his career by moving from the lightweight division to the featherweight division, Florian has new challenges ahead of him, including the likes of Manny Gamburyan, Josh Grispi and of course, Jose Aldo.

MMA UK salutes you Mr Florian…

Fighter Of The Week – Jon Jones

What do you want me to say that hasn’t already been said. Just watch the damn video…

Fighter Of The Week – Vitor Belfort

The Phenom has arguably his biggest test ever in his upcoming fight against UFC Middleweight Champion and arguably the best pound for pound fighter, in the world Anderson Silva. However, if there’s a fighter that can defeat Anderson, it is Belfort. Belfort has already held the UFC Heavyweight title and UFC Lightheavyweight title and now has the chance to truly cement his legacy in the sport by becoming the middleweight champion.

Since this is one of the most epic MMA cards that I’ve ever covered since creating the website, I couldn’t have any old video be part of this version of fighter of the week. It needed to be something that really matched the anticipation of this card. I think I found it…

Fighter Of The Week – Clay Guida

Welcome to the first “Fighter Of The Week” of 2011. This time we give you the Clay “The Carpenter” Guida. The unorthodox and relentless Guida started the year with a fantastic submission over Takanori Gomi and he is now set to face Anthony Pettis on the TUF 13 finale. Whether or not Guida will ever be a UFC champion is up to him. However, no can doubt that whenever he steps in the cage, he’s  there for a fight and for that he will always be a fan favorite.

Fighter Of The Week – Chael Sonnen

Congratulations to Chael Sonnen, as he’s essentially proved that he’s not a cheat – he’s just slightly unorganized. Regardless of that, Chael deserves to be an MMA UK Fighter Of The Week as he prepares to return to the octagon against whoever the UFC decides to put against him. We’re all curious to see how he’s improved with all the downtime he’s had and whether he’s truly learned  some submission defence. For now, let’s respect Sonnen for the fighter he is. A man who talks a lot of trash, but definitely backs it up too.

Fighter Of The Week – Miguel Torres

Here’s to the little guys! Thank god the UFC has merged with the WEC, because now I don’t have to explore the internet to see the likes of Jose Aldo, Shane Roller and Chang Jung Sungs. However, for those that don’t know, one of the greatest MMA fighters to grace the sport is Miguel Torres. This dudes Jiu Jitsu is sick and his record is pretty amazing too.

My favourite thing about Torres is not his fighting skills or his fantastic mullet. It’s his twitter. If you don’t have twitter, I advise you to get it just to read his amazing quotes.

Fighter Of The Week – Lyoto Machida

On Saturday, the world witnesses the second coming of “The Dragon”, as Lyoto Machida sets out to defeat another former champion in Rampage Jackson. These two former Light-Heavyweight champions will battle it out at an attempt to gain a chance at the title that they lost and now want so badly.

I found a fantastic video on youtube of Lyoto Machida, showcasing his career.  For a long time, I thought that the BJ Penn, Fighter Of The Week video was my favourite, until I saw this one. Incredibly edited, with a nice sombre moment at the end. Check it out!
